Honor Flight Michigan: The Legacy Project
In July 2010, Gabe Downey and Jonathan Mellow set out to make a full length documentary, documenting the story and achievements of Honor Flight Michigan, the local World War Two charity that took nearly 1400 veterans on a free trip to Washington, DC to see the newly built World War Two monument. Finished in May 2011, the film premiered at the Main Art Theater in Royal Oak, Michigan with a completely full house of spectators and many World War Two veterans as a Memorial Day celebration. The film is now playing at locally at many libraries and other public venues along with talks by the filmmakers and representatives from the charity. The film is also being sold as a fundraiser to build a World War Two memorial in Royal Oak.
