Holy moly, I concur. What was up with people yesterday? Almost every customer I encountered (at work), and later on (shopping after work) every sales associate and random douche bag I had exchanged words with were complete and total assholes. For no reason. I call shenanigans.

My beef with the movie is that they take this incredibly poignant concept of lying and turn it into a romance comedy rather than run with the social commentary that could have been monumentally more provocative.

You've got it exactly right. People are speaking out and have no idea what they're speaking out about. People jump on the bandwagon of anything because they're looking to express their dumb ass opinion about the President, so they take on specific stupid issues they know nothing about. I don't think all of this is based on race at all, don't get me wrong. But, the reality of it is there are a whole lot of people in this country who hate people who are black, white, jewish, christian, hindu, whatever it may be that makes it different from them. To say race doesn't play a role in some people's opinions would be a huge falsity. The level of role it plays I'm unsure of. The point of this post was to simply say what I think a whole lot of people are trying to ignore, that it DOES play a role in people's thinking. This is an unfortunate truth about our society.

But, look at it this way: There are enough people in this country to whom that isn't an issue and elected him President because they knew he was the best man for the job. Not everyone is ignorant, racist and stupid, but there are definitely some.

I don't know if I completely agree with this on the basis of racism. I think people are just ignorant. I agree with you on the fact that many people that were not involved in politics are now speaking out, and have no fucking clue what they're talking about. The other day I saw these people protesting the "Czar" positions Obama was instating, freaking out, calling him a socialist, saying, "this isn't Russia." When the reporter said, "we've had a drug czar for a while now, instated by a Republican president, for a republican cause." The people were speechless.

I see what you mean, I guess it's just stuff like that that's hard to pin down exactly what it is. Even still, the idea that Obama can't give a speech essentially saying "Stay in school Kids" is ridiculous. It's strange to me that the people that are terrified of Obama are some of the same people that thought Bush's foreign policy was something to be admired.

I don't think that Wilson's outburst was in itself a direct expression of his racism. I do think however, that on a subconscious level, his clear prejudicial thinking contributed a considerable amount to his believing interrupting the President was a good and appropriate idea. If this is a white president, Republican or Democrat, I just don't think this thing happens, but as with everything, I could be wrong.
